Lynside® Forte Se+ is an organically bound selenium yeast produced from Gnosis by Lesaffre. This selenium yeast is full of selenomethionine, the highest bioavailable source of selenium, two times higher than inorganic selenium salts. Selenium is a trace element found in low concentration in food. Selenium is involved in male fertility and thanks to its action, Selenium is eligible on European claim on fertility. Selenium contributes to normal spermatogenesis. In addition, selenium offers other benefits on male fertility. Selenium may influence the biosynthesis and secretion of testosterone. This hormone is one of the most important in male fertility. Selenium may be also needed to maintain testicular morphology.
Selenium actions on fertility are mostly impacted by two selenoproteins:
• Glutathione Peroxidase A also called GPx4
• Selenoprotein P
Glutathione Peroxidase 4 is important for fertility. This protein allows the DNA protection of sperm from oxidative stress during initial phases of spermatogenesis. GPx4 is also able to ensure the integrity and motility of sperm. It is also may be involved in the stabilization of condensed chromatin during sperm maturation.
Selenoprotein P may also be considered as an oxidant defense agent. It is also an essential component of the selenium delivery pathway for developing spermatogenic cells.
